So, how's everybody doing?

Post by beowuuf »

With 2006 drawing to a close and 2007 almost upon us (with it's 20 years of DM milestone too), I just wondered how everyone's year had gone and how everything was shaping up for next year (I'm not going in to flashchat as much to talk to everyone and you never hear from some people in there anyway!).

Me, I think I have managed to settle down in Basingstoke ok and discovered the hidden benefits. Even work I seem to be settling into a good routine with.

I think I need to get out more next year though, in terms of socialising (hey, weren't we all going to have a DM meet at some point?) and just seeing new places local and foreign.

Also, really need to get back into my main hobbies of writing and photography which until recently I hadn't really done much with.

So how are you all doing?

I'm doing pretty well overall, thanks!

I pretty much coasted along as usual in 2006, but I did refocus some of my interests. I've all but abandoned the majority of videogaming in favour of settling down with a few select titles, and I've filled the leisure time gap with a revitalised passion for old-school games - adventure gamebooks and tabletop board and card games.

I haven't really done much creative stuff this year, but I intend to change that in a big way. Next year I'm embarking on a big project that I've had in mind for a few years, and I finally feel like I'm ready to do it. I'm also going to spend much more time just generally doodling and painting, and I'm going to try my hand at a few new things like sculpture and model making.

If it starts with "Manhattan," I don't want to know.

Doing okay. Kind of floaty in the love department, but that's a step above last year (when the love department was on vacation). Working up some new year's resolutions including but not limited to: picking up the guitar that's been sitting next to me all year, maybe picking up the keyboard that's also been sitting next to me half the year, going somewhere with this DM clone, finding a better paying job, finding an apartment, and hopefully finding a pathway to balance.

Things are interesting. Ask me next month, I'll probably have something different to say. That's how life is around here. The only thing that stays the same is me, and even that's questionable.

Life's good and full this end. My 21 month old daughter is now taking up any free spare time I had anyway, so I'll never get to finish that DMII game I started, nor a dungeon. I'll enjoy it while I can as she'll quickly grow up and be interested in more fascinating things such as computers and the internet (just as I did).

Looking forward to the festivities, where it's customary in Spain for your relatives to assault your stomach on a daily basis with copious quantities of food and sweeties. New years resolutions?.... Get an internet connection at home and Flashchat! :P

Funny thing is, when 2006 started and I looked back on 2005, I wrote in my blog that 2005 wasn't a very good year and that 2006 probably wasn't going to be much better. Turns out that was an understatement. I wonder how 2007 will turn out.

Btw, I'm still all for a DM community meeting.

Yesterday night, i went out on Paris and drank a lot of beer. I'm a bit tired but these are my last hours of the year 2006 at my work office. I'm wearing a Christmas reindeer hair-band (this one) on my head and at the moment, i'm photoshoping spiral stairs for FoD.
2007 will be a big change for me : new home in January, new work in April...

Trant: That sounds terrible! Hope 2007 is much better for you : (

Linflas: The hat is scaring me, as are all mental images associated with it. Good luck on the house and job moving thing then!

Well, err lemme see...2006...started the year still working donig fun-fun fruit packing (Ohh the joy) 'cause I was trying to get together some cash for when me and my friend tried moving up to stay with another friend who lives in Ashington (about halfway between Newcastle and Scotland). We went on the 11th of February, but ended up having to come back down again (long story) on the 17th of April...well, it was the 18th really since we actually left the house at about 4am.
So basically since then I been trying (admittedly, perhaps not as hard as I could) to find a job, when there's really bog all round here that really interests me. Still, at least I get huge amounts of computer time most days again (hooray!), since up north, although one friend had a laptop and the other brought her PC up with her, one was kinda crappy and slow, while the other (along with the Net connection) was nearly always in use. Still, it was fun to sit on the floor otuside her bedroom door and have noisy "conversations" with her African Grey :D.
Umm what else...yeah, not a great deal. Generally been doing umm the usual stuff. Uploaded/downloaded a shitload of music onto the computer and so my folder takes up about 2 Gigs on the hard drive, about 1.5 of which are music. Muahahahaha...
And birthday last Friday was umm even more uneventful than last year's (actually I think I was working on my BDay last year...I'm sure it was on a Thursday). My sister gave me a prezzy the night before (big box o' choccy, mmm...) and my mum left one on the settee which I found and opened when I got up - two more DragonLance books, yay :D.
Ooh look this post is becoming long...surprise :D. Umm...I will probably eventually get on with that dungeon I started over a year ago. Probably. Eventually. And maybe I'll write some more poems too. Or get on with one of my stories (like the DM one). Or my DM comic. Or something.
Oh, and Wuffy (and whoever else)...I'm sure we will come and stalk you one day - we just haven't got round to it yet .
;)

Hey, trantor, you're not bothering anyone. Quite the opposite -- maybe talking here will help you through some stuff? I know it's helped me in the past.

As for me, well, I'll post something later, need to go out now.

Yeah trant, the least we can do in repayment for your amusing perverse conversations is listening anytime you want to talk!

Ameena - did you ever carry on that fantasy novel series with 'rachel'?

Yeah we did get on with it...I'm halfway through writing another bit atm...but not much recently. She probably been busy or something...she pops online every now and then but I've not spoken to her for a while. But yeah, we are getting on with it. Slowly.
And it's changed a hell of a lot since those first few chapters we sent you about a year ago ;).

ah well now.. I'm here.. being as I always am. Busy. Now that school has stopped I've taken a few days just to not really do anything but catch up with a few local friends I've not visited at all in the past while. As well as get some christmas shopping done.

I now need to set up a sort of time table for things I want to get done which have been sitting on the shelf in my brain. I've that side view of the skull fountain at the top of the list. Few drawings for the book I started with Ameena. Some tutorials for school start which I said I'd have done before then. Then I have 3 other books I've started but not finished. Two fantasy stories and one that is instructional on 3D modeling and Texturing. I'm more likley to continue the instructional one due to the fact that it's got more potential to make a bit of cash. Which is the ultimate goal here to have something that can generate it's own funds for a while.

I also have on going production on a game I've been working on some time now.. so if there's much time left I should do something with that.

might give an idea why I don't jump onto too many peoples projects anymore.. although I'm back down to 5 days a week at work rather than 6.

I can't even remember how we came up with the idea...I think we were just talking about poems or something, and we ended up sort of deciding to put together this thing. I wrote some poems telling a little story, and he's doing the pics for it.

Ever since the last week of May (parents' car accident) it's been downhill. I had to give up most of my hobbies(programming, art) to help my parents recover. I hope 2007 will be better for me.
