Lol, I need to do soemhting fast before that starts to stick! And
I think this forum has some strange gravitional pull...must..keep..coming..back...

I found a version of his graphics file, but not the one i wanted - it has his dungeon wall texture and cowsmanaut's lionhead fountains, but he did a better one that also imported the screamers and renamed alot of the texts

So for now I'm still checking : )

John Howe is such a marvelous artist, I just love his paintings. They match exactly with my personal imagination of LoR.

Avatars gallery

Post by Gambit37 »

I finally got around to sorting out the avatars gallery, and I've put all the DM stuff in there that I could find. You can now browse this gallery by using the option at the bottom of your profile page. I've disabled the ability for people to upload their own though -- thought this might get a bit problematic...

If you've already got a link to Cow's original images, you can carry on using that, but there's nothing stopping you from using the one in the gallery--they're all much smaller and better optimised.

Very cool. I still hope Cowsmanaut will go on making improved versions (go on people, ask him...!) since I like his style very much.

Never played Theron's Quest... the names are not enormously original, are they?

I've been saving all my old Amiga data onto my PC so that I can finally get rid of it (though not till after I've helped out the CAPS project).

In doing so, I discovered a bunch of portrait files that I'd made. I thought I'd upload them to the gallery so that you can see my very poor artistic efforts from about 14 years ago. Some of them are just mods to exisiting champions, while the others (the really bad ones) were new...

I asked Francois Munoz if we could use his Dungeon Master Java portraits as avatars, to which he agreed, so you now have another folder of pics to choose from! Yay --some really good ones in there.

You can see his web page using the links menu above or go straight there:

I've uploaded avatars for Dungeon Master:Nexus.

They aren't great quality as they've come from a scan of very small pictures in the manual. Although screenshots from the game would have been better, one of the bugs in the Saturn emulator prevents the champion portraits from showing.... :-(

You can find the new avatars by editing your profile using the button at the top of the page and then scrolling right to the bottom for the Gallery bit.

I was trying to use my own picture on my own webspace, and I had it down within the size limitations and everything - but no good, it won't work. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Not that I have any problem with being Wu Tse, since she's my favorite and all, but a little personalization is always a nice option...

stupid question, but can you see your avatar if you just paste the link for the picture into a browser normally? sometimes a lack of capitals can be fatal for a link.

What Beowuuf means is that URLs are case sensitive:

Code: Select all

www.mydomain.com/Wutse.gif
is NOT THE SAME as

Code: Select all

www.mydomain.com/wutse.gif
and obviously it should exactly match the name of your picture file.

Yeah, it opens just fine in a browser. I just copied/pasted the URL. BFS says he's had trouble getting his to work, too. (and yes, I've taken case sensitivity into consideration)

Here's what it says when I try:

Could not write avatar file to local storage. Please contact the board administrator with this message

Just fixed that one, can you post the link to your one and I'll try to update it with spooky admin powers?

Also, can someone confiirm BFS's one is actually, fixed, and it's not some weirdness to do with me having it in my cache now or anything...

Yeah, bfs's is working for me... so his must be fixed.

I'm not sure, I'm wavering between two avatars. Here they are:
http://meteo.rydia.net/AROH/temp/selieavatar.jpg
http://meteo.rydia.net/AROH/selieavatar1.gif

Well, anyway ... do you know why the custom avatars aren't working for us?
