Sundog frozen legacy
Hey Im new to the boards, just thought id ask if anyone has had any experience with PacifiST and tos162us - I tried to play an FTL game 'Sundog' and it 'bombed out' after showing the FTL logo.
If I get some good help Ill show you some good links to humorous and interesting stuff

Try STeem instead.
Pacifist is quite old and not that good anymore. For emulating Atari ST you should try steem (http:/steem.atari.org) for Windows, Nostalgia (http://users.skynet.be/sky39147/) for Macintosh or Hatari (http://hatari.sourceforge.net/) for Linux (Also runs on Mac, BeOS and BSD among others).

Re: Sundog frozen legacy
Anyone else still love this game?
I think it's one of the best space sim games of all time, possibly even better than Elite. It was absolutely groundbreaking at its time, and is still great to play after all these years.
FWIW I think the easiest way to play it on a PC is to use STew v1.0 with the TOS162US ROM. The best thing is that you don't need to install anything, it all runs from a pendrive or regular folder on your HDD, so you can take your game with you to another computer at any time.

Hi Adamo,
Many thanks for the link - this is great news indeed. It would be great if he could make the original available for the iPad for instance, while working on a new version of Sundog.
P.S. "Ports of Call" is available for the iPhone, so it's not that rare to see classic games released on new platforms.

Re: Sundog frozen legacy
I was just doing some research for my DM website. I discovered that the domain "ftlgames.com" is registered again, since April 2011 -- but it's redirecting to a SunDog Resurrection site hosted by Google (I don't have access permission to view it). No idea if the project is still going ahead, but I thought it was interesting to see the old FTL Games URL back in business!
If you type "ftlgames.com" into your browser, you'll end up here:

There's a new game out "FTL" that's getting good press and rave reviews. Looks suspiciously like Sundog, though the devs say they'd never heard of SunDog... hmmmm.....

Re: Sundog frozen legacy
I played the above mentionned "FTL", for several weeks now ; as Gambit said, it has enough online reviews, I'll make it short :
I enjoyed the game ; at first, mostly because of the "nostalgic" feeling it has (I especially loved the ambient music). I barely played SunDog, so I can't tell the similarities between the two. However it's a nicely surprising game, with a really good replay value (well it is meant to be replayed, actually, 1-3 hours are enough to beat the final boss...) , mostly due to randomness, and the variety of ships / alien races available.
It's definitely worth a try !
