Activating this lock with a cross key should open a shortcut in the DDD (referring to walkthrough). Can anybody explain this? I don't find any shortcut/changes.

If you look through DMute / CSBuild you should see the cross key opens up the shortcut back upstairs, opposite the 'value in exchange for valuables' sign

But first, use it downstairs where it will not be taken
from you.

But what happens, if you use it downstairs? Which wall will disappear?

The wall I said back upstairs opposite the 'valuables' text.
If you use the cross key upstairs, it opens an iron grate in the DDD closeby

We disagree in the term "opposite"...
Opposite the 'valuables' text I see the lock.
You meant 'nearly opposite. won't you?

I did not say 'directly opposite', I just said opposite, so I too am right - it depends how broadly you define opposite - does it need a large quantifier to narrow it down or expand upon it? : )

That's the point, Paul. There are so nice coordinates at the maps, so why not use them?
And beowuuf: I say it with the words of Max Paynes big opponent Vladimir Lem: "We agree to disagree"
BTW, for the meaning of "kitty corner" i had to look in a dictionary. Such terms you usually don't learn at school (i'm german).
