[Custom dungeon] 3D2D1D [CSBWin] [Paul R. Stevens]

Story:
The long awaited (and soon-to-be widely
acclaimed!) 3D2D1D dungeon is now available
at:
webpages.charter.net/pstevens1

This is **NOT** a game. It is a difficult puzzle
that will require pencil, paper, and hard work.

It demonstrates the 'Encrypt'
facility of CSBuild and provides an example
of a machine-generated puzzle. The 2-D maze
was randomly machine-generated. I chose
one from among several dozen that the computer
produced; all difficult but this one more
difficult than the rest.

You will find (that is probably a bit optimistic)
the ending unique...whether to your liking or not.

I will be surprised if more than one person
manages to finish it. But it is logical. It is
possible to figure it out without recourse to
'Luck'. For example, it took me about three hours
to solve the 1-D puzzle, assuming that I knew
nothing to start with and did not possess any of
the items that would have been helpful. I finished
with a page of rather complex-looking (but
really very simple) diagrams. I probably could
have finished more quickly by running around at
random but I wanted to be sure it was really
'solvable'. Good Luck.

The dungeon incorporates several features
suggested by PitD. Thanks.

Instructions:
  1. Download the archive file CD3D2D1D.rar.
  2. Extract all the files to a single directory. You should see 3D2D1D.exe, config.txt, dungeon.dat, and graphics.dat.
  3. Execute 3D2D1D.exe
  4. Click on "DUNGEON"
  5. Click on "PRISON"
  6. Learn the ways of a strange world.
Download:
Download this dungeon from this Shared OneDrive (in the 'Custom Dungeons' folder)

Again, this is a "drunken-walk style puzzle" ;) ...

GOT IT

I figured it out... tricky... but easy once you get it!

**SPOIlER**

Solution: THROW it in the trash before you get a migrane! =]

** End spoiler **

Anyway: Either I'm too dumb to figure this puzzle out, or this puzzle is way too damn hard! I got the first 3 switches (oh boy), then got lost in the "world" of cities, never to find a single button again!

IMPOSSIBlE!!!!

Not impossible.....PitD figured out the 3-D maze.
Perhaps you should trade notes.
I found it helpful to put 'markers' in strategic locations.
When I did not have any unique items to place I
put patterns of 'Zo Kath Ra' spells. (Like two in one corner
and one in the next corner clockwise).

But it certainly is impossible without a pencil and lots of paper,
thought, and time. A project for a Master's Thesis. Not for a
Sunday afternoon.

It is not impossible, as Paul said. The 3D one is done already from my point of view (although I have the distinct advantage of having played the last one completely and knowing it almost by heart) and once I also managed the 1D already (though not in the same game and with no notes). Take your time and find a plan and how it works. Randomized is possible but not rewarding.

We'll see about the second one, that's giving me problems at the moment...

Another thing you can do is slow the game down...
even to the point of 'glacial' and 'player clock'
so that you can advance time by pressing a key.
That way you can go as slow as you like and see
what is happening.

PitD: That 2D is very tractable with the right approach.
I sorta worked it out backwards. But then I wrote the
program that designed it and therefore I had a bit of a
head start.

I think after beating the original 3D the 2D will be doable. I had no real try so far and just sort of tried it out to get an overview. But I'll do the 1D first and then concentrate on 2D. BTW... am visiting the US in a few days, so should you happen to be in NY by any chance I'd gladly invite you for a beer ...

Tricky. I am having problems with the 2D part, since several areas seem not to be reachable. Once I'm in a certain part of the maze I cannot find another way out - either there's ways of movement I have not discovered or certain walls are always blocking ways back.

I hope the the graphic will make any sense... if I'm positioned at (1) and want to reach either (2) or (3), is there any way to do that? It's very rudimentary, I know - hope I remembered it correctly.

If I interpret the 'x' as a 'floor' and the space as a 'wall'
then you cannot be at 1 because you do not have two
adjacent walls next to you. Therefore, the 'x' is a 'wall'
and the 'space' is a 'floor'.

You cannot have gotten to 1. There are three 'floors' in that
area (you, and west, and northwest of you) and no exit
(or entrance) to that area. Therefore, you have made a
mistake in drawing the diagram.

By the way....it is common in this puzzle that to
move from one square to a square two or three cells
away will require dozens! of moves.

If you cannot reach a square then there is no need to
reach the square. There are no dead-ends from which you
cannot escape. These last two rules were part of the
computer program that designed the maze and are born
out by extensive (Too extensive) testing by yours truely.

The problem is the drawing does not work. Since I'm in the US at the moment and have no time to play anyway I will try in detail after coming back. Should there be any other problems I'll contact you via email.

I'm sure it is solvable and I'm equally sure I missed something. Maybe I am too much bound to the 3D one and have not yet accustomed to the specifics of the 2D maze. Anyway, I'll solve it, in time.

When the character is killed in the game, a reload produces the following error message: "System Error 0 - Duplicate DSA". A complete new start makes no problems, however.

This is not effecting the game in a big way since you don't die easily, but I thought I'd let you know anyway after I withheld information the last time ;)
