conflux -- custom graphic packs ?

Post by zoom »

I was wondering since some time now whether custom graphic
packs for CONFLUX custom dungeon would be worthwhile.

The graphics for conflux are released (scktool | each )
a graphic artist would have to replace all of them
(without much tweaking (afaik) on contrary to doing
something of similar proportions from scratch).

well, it could get a bit hard, because of graphical restrictions,
and the amount is not little.

Anyway don't know if I will start or finish it, just wanted to
ask prophylactially whether the graphics of the sck page are
complete or enough base for such an ambition;
after all these have different formats? I guess you cannot simply
replace the Graphic.dat or csbgraphic.dat files and get happy.

You can edit the graphics.dat with programs such as ADGE. Though I dare say many of the graphics have a specific purpose.

yes the graphics have a specific purpose. Therefore custom
graphics ought to be coordinated.
True, an alternate graphic pack is not needed at all!
If conflux will continue for 20 years however, a custom graphic
pack for it would probably be inevitable... just like with odm!
maybe it would be best to first do some custom dungoen on
my onwn and then see how well or bad graphics go before fiddling
with conflux graphics.. so reversing the initial approach, zyx could
then use this custom graphics to his own leisure to conflux or not.

There are alot of custom graphics, each fitted in to the various engine tweaks that Paul S designed as the engine expanded

You have standard graphics redone, portraits, the wallmasks and alternate monster masks

There are too many graphics, and too many mechanics, to easily swap them out. I think people's efforts grahics wise would be better spent creating new graphics for new dungeons. Let conflux be a classic with it's own style!
