Well, I wouldn't really call it "Registering" -- it'll create an account with whatever username and password you put in. Also, you only need to do that if you want to edit the pages. Viewing them requires nothing.
But I am coming up with a bit of problem (which could totally be my fault, I don't know). Login sessions seem to expire immediately. What I mean is, I sign in under my account, which brings me to the Homepage, and up in the top right corner it says "Remy | Logout". I also have the 'tab' option, labelled "Edit", so that I can edit the Homepage. But, when I click on it, I get a screen to sign in again, and a message saying that a user at my level (ANON) isn't permitted this action, or some such.
That's okay, but it also drops the login no matter which page you go to. Clicking on any link (such as going to peek at the sandbox), changes the upper right hand text to "Remy | Login", which means I don't get the 'Edit" option on the sandbox. Logging in again, takes you back to the Homepage, perpetuating the cycle (I was able to edit the About Remy page, though, by logging in three times at the various points - first to see the link to it, second to get to the Wikiwyg editor, third to save the changes).
I checked, and cookies are working on my end (evidenced by the fact that I remain logged in here, on the forums), so I fairly sure it's not that. I also got this error a number of times while signing in (the sign-n succeeded- temporarily-, but this was at the bottom):
Warning: "Overlarge session data! 6436 gt. 4000"
I dunno. It sounds bad, though.

It is bad. 'Admin' has the same problem.
Which makes progress slow. But we will
work it out.

It works a treat now, Paul. There are various php warning messages appearing that don't seem to affect the portal (Warning: "Overlarge1 session data! 5810 gt. 4000).
You don't have to register to make changes (in the Sandbox, at least), but with these things it's always better to leave a trail of not only the changes made, but who did them as well.

I think the wiki works the way I want it to work.
I have not yet tried assigning special rights
to view any 'secret' pages that we might want
to put in there. But it seems fine for information
that can be public.
The big problem seems to be the 'skin' I
chose.
Only authenticated users can edit (except the
Sandbox...I made that public.)
Only I can add usernames. PM me or EMail
me and tell me what name you would like.
Then you can log in and change your password.

all right. Well, when I think about it , I really could not post any useful
stuff for conflux 3 so I do not need a pw or username at all!
keep up the good work though

is up and running well enough to accept
contributions. I will download and back it
up once a week just because I am paranoid.
I added the contents of the Conflux /DOC
folder to the ConfluxIII main page and it
needs to be moved somewhere. So everone
who can contribute can now write to me
with a login name and starting password and
get to work on this. The problem is very large
and I don't know how it will eventually be
broken up into manageable pieces. We
need your help.

Wow! I just wasted three hours trying to add to the monster list. When I went to preview, it looked completely different then what I put and was not workable. There was no way I'd have been able to figure out how to get it to look the same as I had done it. Oh well. I guess that's why I'm not a computer person.

Don't worry about the 'form'. Put the information
into the wiki in asny form and it can be fixed.
If you are really worried, put it into a new
page called ChristopherDevelopment or
something.

It'll be a while before I'm in the mood to put another few hours into it.

Seriously, anyone else can do the formatting, it's the meat of the stuff that's needed from players who have played the game and can write about what there is accurately. Do you have that text saved anywhere? Even just post it here or in a mess on the wiki then someone who can format it can add the entry
At some point we can get templates made for stuff to easily insert all this into a page format.
Thanks for the effort!

I know what you mean. It is probably a good
idea to do big projects like that locally (off-
line) with Notepad or something. Then you can
paste the entire thing into a page with one
click and no fear of the internet losing your
connection during those several hours of hard work.
If you want to work online, you can 'Save' every
10 minutes and then Edit and continue.
Just like playing Conflux.

Alrighty then. Well, I've added a very small, possibly unnoticable part already. I'll get around to redoing what I did on Notepad or something like that.

I noticed.
See the 'RecentEdits' page. It tells all.

Finished the monster list and mailed it to Paul Stevens. It's incomplete, has some inaccuracies, but it's a start.

hour or so.

Looks okay so far. Please anyone, feel free to edit or change this entirely. The order it is in right now isn't good since nobody else necessarily identifies the creatures by the same name that I gave them. It might make more sense once Zyx has provided a monster name list.

I have a few screen shots of some of the monsters if anyone is interested in hosting them. If they end up being good enough for the Wiki page, I'll go about getting shots of the rest of the monsters.

Hopefully we can rip using ADGE and CSBGrapics.exe the monsters and items, but areas and walls might be great to get screenshots of for later pages

Aren't all those files protected in Conflux? I haven't kept up with the advancements but I seem to recall you could encrypt the data to prevent extraction...?

I have been adding text from the
Hint Oracle to the Conflux wiki Monster
List.
I would like to have a small picture
for each of the monsters. I would like
a simple, one-sided view, not an animated
GIF such as is in the Encyclopaedia.
Anyone able to supply such?

I will try to strip and resize pictures out of the files tomorrow distractions willing!

Look at:
http://www.dianneandpaul.net/DMwiki/Images/tiles1
Notice the little red exclamation mark near the
northeast corner. That marks an interesting
place. Put your mouse cursor over it.
It seems like this might be a good way to present
a LOT of information in a single page without
making the page so big as to be unusable.
I can probably find a way for people to insert
text in the wiki which will be automatically
displayed when the map is viewed.
Edit:
Oooops! Does not seem to work with my version
of Internet Explorer. Works with Opera!! I'll see
what needs doing.

Out of interest, did you create this HTML by hand ur automate it somehow?
I'm no Javascript expert, but I think the problem with your code is because different browsers report the number of nodes in an element differently. Whitespace is considered a node in IE:
Code: Select all
<script type="text/javascript">
function hoverPopup( event, text ) {
var hb = document.getElementById("hover-box");
hb.firstChild.nodeValue = text;
That last line above won't necessarily be matched in all browsers. A safer alternative (though less efficient in some respects) would be to use innerHTML:
Code: Select all
<script type="text/javascript">
function hoverPopup( event, text ) {
var hb = document.getElementById("hover-box");
hb.innerHTML = '<p>'+text+'</p>';

Gambit37 wrote:

I have never written a line of javascript in my llife.
So I asked a friend. He provided the code.
I did it all by hand as a proof of concept. It will
be done with php if we do it in production.
I already figured out the 'innerHTML' business.
All on my own
Now I cannot get thte ApplyHoverText to do
anything at all in the IE6 case. I have decided
that I will simply put the 'hovertext' explicitly
in each entry with the 'onmouseover' attribute.
I suppose I will be required to learn something
before this is over.

OK...now it works with my Opera
and with IE6. Hopefully, because it
is simpler, it will still work with firefox.

Hey that's looks great, way better than the spamy text doc I sent you, with a quick way to look up and down levels and a search function to for specific items such as keys and guild items it would be fantastic.
P.S. there's some extra walls and missing walls in that map.
