I finished!!

Post by BlueFox »

I just wanted to say that after many sleepless nights I finally finished CSB!! :D Thanks for all the help! I'm always happy when I finish a game, but it is also a sad time when I have to leave my party behind. What should I play now?? I have never played Dungeon Master 2, How does that compare to DM and CSB?

DMII is worth playing if you can find a way to play it smoothly.
DosBox is best, I think. If you must play on a modern machine.
I keep old machines around for these things.

DMII is different.

You may have won a game of CSB but you are not 'Finished'. You
will be back. If you want to see the **ENTIRE** game try the
alternate way of winning.....collect every last item in the game.
One of the menu items in CSBwin will tell you what remains. If you
have a savegame near the end you can use it as a nice starting point.

Paul- You were right about not being finished, not only do I plan on finding more items in my saved game, but I have already began another game with 1 character. I'm interested to see how powerful just 1 character could get. Right now I am playing Petal. Who's your favorite? I really liked Lor, is there anyway to get him as an only player?
Thanks-

Play DM2 on a Mac if at all possible! OS 7, 8, 9 , or Classic mode in X! DM2 is easier than CSB by far, and easier than DM1. You gat a town to explore, a small home with the only Altar of VI, and several layers of tower with puzzles (though simple and somewhat unexplained), and fighting off monsters is maybe the most critical part of gameplay. Sound is superb, music is nice, and graphics are there in full 256 color glory.

congrats! but yes, there are many more ways to beat CSB once you've done it the first time. I like one player in that, to tell the truth. i always like aroc for that - except for low wisodm, he seems to kick all round ...something...
Lor is only available if you edit the dungeon in csbuild and put his portrait somewhere else....or remove the critters and the door...

if you have been playing csbwin, then many good custom dungeons by people on the boards are easily playable (they have all been adapted to run on it)
I'd recommend confux II, tower of chaos or imprisoned again

Any one of the characters will do nicely. Do you want to play
LOR? If so, I can quiclky remove the doors and monsters and
publish a new dungeon.dat. Or you can get TOADROT and
LOR and then kill TOADROT. Pretty ugly, though.

Another interesting module is the adaptation of DMII. It is for
the PC-Dos platform. Is Toni Y. still around? Any reason that this
module cannot be converted easily to CSBwin?

no, it was in the good old days of no cloning/hacking, so it should convert like a dream : )

You could try winning CSB without taking any damage, very hard though. Never been able to do it myself, has anybody else tried this?

Paul- Thank you for your offer to publish a new dungeon.dat, but I decided that I have played Lor (and I liked him) but I have not tried Kazai so I thought I would give him a try, and since I'm not playing to beat any records I thought that I would bring Petal for the journey. So I was able to get him out using her. So far they have been advancing nicely.
Also, I am having a bit of trouble with downloading DM2. I can download it but whenever I try to open it I get a crash message? I don't know if I am doing something wrong or not? Is there a simple way to download it? I have win98, should that make it easier for me?
Thanks-

Dungeon Master II cannot be played on Windows. Pretty much PERIOD.
Your best bet is to get DosBox to make your machine pretend to be a
DOS machine. Then you have to work a bit to get everthing configured
just right. There are a lot of hints (and sad stories of failures) in the
Dungeon Master 2 forums.

Your machine will need to be relatively fast to run DM2 on DosBox. An
old 486 will not make it go. Unless you have a real ISA soundcard and
FAT directories and can boot your machine to DOS with a floppy.

If you really want to do this, read the DM2 forums and place a 'HELP' message
over there.

but having win98, you can easily play it under dos, just without sound - the only thing you will need is a dos mouse like cutemouse, etc - availoable on the boot up disk downloadable from the encyclopaedia

What should be the correct sequence for playing these games ?

DM -> CSB -> DM2 -> RTC -> CSBWin ?

Dunno really

For DM/CSB either CSBwin or RTC or DMJava equally - probably in that order if you want to play them all, since you can increase the difficulty of RTC, and DMJava starts out slightly harder. If you want continuity of characters then RTC for both.

Then CSBwin for the custom dungeons

Then DM2

Then bakcto the harder custom dungeons again, perhaps

Define harder dungeons... i can think of EOB and Black Crypt, but then again, i think CSBWin is the hardest you can find...
