Savegames in different Versions

Post by Tschordi »

Hi
once again I installed different DM and CSB Versions. Well, CSBWin seems to be great.
However, I have a old savegame from the DOS-DM Version, which I'd like to use in CSBWin, without playin DM in CSBWin once again. (I could do it with eyes closed)
So I tried the most simply way. I took the dmsave.dat file, renamed it to csbgame.dat, copied it in the right place. => SaveGameError. While browsing the forums, I realized the problem with the little and big endian. However, as the savegame doesnt consist of eg integers alone, simply byteswapping doesn't help. So, two questions:
1. Is there an Editor for CSBWin? I could then make a new Party and change the stuff according to my savegame.
2. Is there an explanation of the savegamestoring in CSBWin? I could then create my own savegame-file.

Greetings

My converter only works with dungeons, not with savegames.
When I have time, I'll study the savegame format and try to make such a converter.

OK, Christophe. Thanks for the information.

I posted CSBuild version 0.71 at
webpages.charter.net/pstevens1

It can read PC-formatted DM savegames. Sorta.
The characters are still messed up. The text (like
scrolls) does not work. And probably many other
things. But if it is valuable then I can try to make
it work better. It saves the game in a format for
CSBwin and I don't know if that works at all yet.

If anyone wants to try it and thinks it would be
a nice thing to have then tell me. And at the same
time you can tell me all the things you find that
are broken.

I'll betatest the 0.71 Version of CSBuild. I'll let you know, how it does.

It figures. When I check it, it is OK. When I fail to
check it, it fails. Murphy!

But perhaps it is for the best. I wen ahead and
fixed a lot of things. Version 0.72 is much better.

The 'File' menu in version 0.72 has an option
for loading a LitttleEndian SaveGame. That
option must be selected before loading a
PC-formatted savegame file.

The link is OK now, but when I launch csbuild.exe, an error message appears because it does not find the file "MFC42D.DLL". Is it a debug version?

If all went well then version 0.73 fixes the missing DLLs and
also allows for more than one character in the savegame.
